Mayor Puts Body on the Line to Score For Kids

March 18, 2019 - Champions Indoor Football (CIF)
Texas Revolution News Release

Bigger football news than Jason Witten coming out of retirement? Perhaps not...but it just might be weirder? The Texas Revolution announces the signing of Frisco Mayor Jeff Cheney to a one game contract today, March 13, 2019. That's right, everyone's favorite Mayor will be suited up and playing professional football on Sunday, March 24th for the Texas Revolution at Ford Center!

A native Texan, Cheney attended the University of Texas at Austin but was ruled ineligible by the NCAA during the first day of scrimmages after his pre-game speech convinced the other team Texas was the right choice for the Championship. Mayor Cheney agreed to bring his talents to the Revolution after hearing that a third of the revenue for every ticket sold in his name would be donated to Boys & Girls Club of Collin County. Cheney was elected as the youngest mayor in Frisco history in May of 2017 and has helped Frisco become the fastest growing city and best place to live according to Money Magazine.

"When the Texas Revolution chose to make Frisco their new home, I never imagined someday I would be suiting up for a game!" Cheney said. "I am excited to participate in the Texas Revolution's Season Premier game and to be supporting Boys & Girls Club of Collin County."

Director of Football Operations and Head Coach Victor Mann is working hard on the best way to assimilate his new talent into the team while the CEO of Boys & Girls Club of Collin County Mike Simpson is thrilled that such a valuable member of the community is putting his health and safety on the line to raise money for the organization.

"We are excited to be the beneficiary of Mayor Cheney's first ever "Touchdown for Kids" game with the Texas Revolution" Simpson said. "This will not only be a great opportunity for our young people to see a great professional game in the state-of-the-art Star venue, but also fun for the whole family. We can't wait to see the Mayor contributing to the team! Some of the Rev's players are Boys & Girls Clubs Alumni, so they have an opportunity to give back to our clubs!"

Fans and members of the community can purchase tickets to enjoy the Revolution game Vs. the Arlington Longhorns while supporting Boys & Girls Club by clicking the Mayor's 'Touchdown for Kids' the button below! Tickets are also available for purchase to be donated to members of Boys & Girls Club of Collin County and their families through the same link. Kickoff is at 5:00 PM.
