Laredo Bucks News Release
LAREDO, Texas - Laredo Bucks head coach Terry Ruskowski will be the head instructor for the Christian Hockey Camp International which will be held July 23-28 in College Station, Texas at the Arctic Wolf Ice Center. The six day camp mixes hockey instruction with practical training in Christian living. For more information call 713-882-1784 or email camps@hockeyministries.org.
Ruskowski will be joined by former Houston Aeros teammate Bill Butters, and former NHL goalie Glenn 'Chico' Resch as instructors at the camp. The Arctic Wolf Ice Center is a brand new state of the art facility that serves the College Station / Bryan area. The Laredo Bucks played a CHL pre-season game last October at the facility, drawing a capacity crowd to the building.
"Terry is a great hockey coach, but more importantly , he is a great person, in every realm of his life," said Bucks owner Glenn Hart. Hart also owns the Arctic Wolf Ice Center. "One of the 'secrets' of his success is that he is a strong Christian family man, who instills tremendous pride and work ethic into all of those around him. Who could possibly be a better person to teach youngsters how to play hockey , and about life itself. These are the sole objectives of Hockey Ministries Camps."
CHCI holds camps all over Canada and the United States. The camps serve ages 9-17 and target overall skill development through healthy competition. Campers will improve their skating, individual skills, team skills, and dry land training.
"The real advantage of a hockey camp like this is getting on the ice and getting quality instruction," said Ruskowski. "What you learn when you are young, you'll take with you to the next level. Maybe someday even to the professional level. It can't be emphasized enough that being taught the right technique when you are young is very important."
The CHCI mission is two fold, both improving the players on the ice and also preparing them for challenges they will face off the ice. Each day the devotional introduces the "game plan" for the day - a theme from the Hockey Players Handbook. The theme is followed in the daily Christian Value Discussion when counselors meet with their groups and discuss a number of topics related to life's inevitable challenges.
"When they asked me to be part of this camp, without hesitation I said yes," said Ruskowski. "To set a good example for young men, not just in hockey but in the Christian way of life is very important. To emphasize what the good book says to the young generation is something I believe in. By teaching the right values, these young men become role models for other young kids in schools and in the hockey rinks."
Cost of the camp is $585 which includes food and lodging for the camper. You can also register for the CHCI camp online at http://www.hockeyministries.org.
