New Mexico Scorpions News Release
[RIO RANCHO, N.M.]- The New Mexico Scorpions, proud member of the Central Hockey League (CHL), are pleased to announce former player Randy Murphy has been named Director of Community Relations. The former Scorpion on-ice star will immediately begin his transition to the off-ice hockey world.
Murphy will primarily be out in the community assisting the public relations and marketing departments at community events. The 12-year veteran spent three seasons on the ice with the Scorpions. He appeared in 199 games scoring 250 points (107G, 143A).
"This is an exciting time in my life," said Murphy. "I missed New Mexico this past season and have always loved the area. The current organization is nothing but a class act and I look forward to helping the success of the Scorpions as they move into their 10th season."
The former center will not only be out and about in the community at civic events but will also be involved in ticket and corporate partnership sales. The Mississauga, Ont. has made Rio Rancho his home for four years. As his retirement starts to set in, he can't be happier to start his post hockey career in the spot he has some of his fondest memories.
"When I played here I always loved the fans and the community," said Murphy. "With the team moving to the new state-of-the-art Rio Rancho Events Center, I can only imagine how much more exciting Scorpions hockey will be for the fans and the players."
As the Scorpions continue to work their way back to "game shape," things are starting to get really exciting around Scorpions Central and the surrounding areas.
"Brining on Randy's knowledge of the community and his excitement for the area is something we want," said Scorpions President Dave Ellett. "Randy has made Rio Rancho his family's home and we hope in the future more former players stay in the area and become apart of our family."
Murphy currently resides with family in Rio Rancho. He and his wife, Joann, have two children Alexandra (7) and Raegan (4).
