Rookie Ice Bear Fletcher Named SBK Player of the Week
March 8, 2011 - SPHL (SPHL) News Release
CHARLOTTE, NC (March 8, 2011) - The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) today announced Tyler Fletcher of the Knoxville Ice Bears is the SBK Player of the Week for February 28-March 6.
The Calgary, Alberta native scored three goals, two on the power play, and added an assist as the Ice Bears split a pair of games and maintained their hold on the sixth and final playoff spot.
On Friday, Fletcher scored the game-tying goal early in the third period and added an empty-netter as Knoxville rallied to defeat Huntsville 4-2. Fletcher finished the weekend with a one goal, one assist performance in a 4-3 loss to Fayetteville.
Fletcher, who played three years at the University of Wisconsin-Superior, ranks third on the Ice Bears with a +8 rating and is fourth in assists with 19. Fletcher's solid play earned him a call-up to the ECHL's Cincinnati Cyclones earlier this season, registering no points and five penalty minutes in five games.
Runners Up: Jesse Cole, Columbus (3 gp, 1g, 4a, 1 gwg), Jason Beeman, Mississippi (3 gp, 3g, 1a, 2 ppg) and Chris Wilson, Pensacola (3 gp, 3g, 1a, 1 gwg, +4 rating)
