
Ronald Matarrita Named to Costa Rica Roster for 2022 FIFA World Cup

FC Cincinnati defender Ronald Matarrita has been named to the final 26-man roster for Costa Rica ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Matarrita and Los Ticos begin World Cup play on Wednesday, Nov. 23 in their Group E opener against Spain.
Matarrita earns a spot on a World Cup roster for the first time in his career. He has made 52 caps with the Costa Rican National Team, scoring three goals. Matarrita made 10 appearances, including seven starts, in Costa Rica's qualifying campaign for the World Cup.
Matarrita makes his first appearance in Costa Rica's squad since he was injured in Los Ticos' FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Canada on March 24. Los Ticos are set for two friendlies before World Cup play begins, on Nov. 9 against Nigeria and on Nov. 17 at Iraq.
Matarrita made seven regular season appearances with FC Cincinnati this season, scoring one goal and adding three assists. He also came on as a second half substitute in both of the Orange and Blue's games in the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs. He has made 29 career appearances with FCC, totaling three goals and eight assists.
