Brooklyn Aviators News Release

Brooklyn, NY - Casey Mignone picked up the game-winning goal on the power play late in the third period to lift New York over the Rome Frenzy 4-3 in Federal Hockey League action on Saturday night.

The Aviators have now put together 10 consecutive victories, and also won their 11th straight game on home ice to close out the month of January.

New York got on the board in the opening period after Jon Madsen collected his first goal in an Aviator jersey. Madsen skated in from the point, and wristed Jesse Felten's pass over the glove of Rome net minder Anthony Luckow for his second tally of the season at the 4:51 mark. Andrew Scampoli would then put the A's up 2-0, as he knocked home a rebound in front for his 13th marker of the year 3:08 later.

Matt Puntureri netted his team-leading 23rd goal of the season 4:08 into the second period to give New York the 3-0 lead, however it was the Rome Frenzy putting together back to back goals to close out the middle frame. Anthony Monte grabbed his 28th tally of the campaign on a backhand that slipped past the legs of A's goalie Peter Dundovich at the 15:46 spot. Then with 16 seconds left in the second, Marcus Gustaffson put home a one timer in the slot to cut the New York lead to one at 3-2.

Gustaffson would deposit his second goal of the night on the man advantage in the final frame to bring the score to 4-3, however it was not enough as New York hold on for the victory.

Dundovich stopped 25 shots to earn his fifth victory, while Luckow is charged with his fourth loss despite putting aside 30 Aviator tries.

With the win, New York moves to 21-12-2 on the season and now holds 44 points in the FHL standings. Rome falls to 10-27-6 after the loss.

New York hits the road tomorrow night to take on the Danbury Whalers at the Danbury Ice Arena. Puck drop is slated for 5:05 PM, and can be heard live on the FHL Sports Network powered by Live Sports Video.
