ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Brett Bennett (Williamsville, N.Y.) turned aside 33 pieces of vulcanized rubber to backstop the United States National Team Development Program (NTDP) U-17 team to a 4-3 home opening Friday, September 24, 2004 victory against the Soo Kewadin Casino Indians.

Bill Sweatt (Elburn, Ill.) opened and closed the scoring for the U-17 club, tallying the first of his two goals, at 14:25 of the opening session as he bested Indians goaltender Craig Vardy (Leesburg, Va.) with a shot high stick side. His second goal, an empty net score with just :47 left in the game, was the eventual game-winning marker.

Michael Carman (Apple Valley, Minn.) followed Sweatt's first goal as he deposited a shot into the Soo goal after receiving a backhand pass from Huntington Beach, California native Rhett Rakhsani. Kevin Montgomery (Rochester, N.Y.) staked the US team to a three nil lead as he whistled a slapper into the visitors net off a feed from team Captain Danny Fardig (Ann Arbor, Mich.).

Bennett posted 16 of his 33 saves in the third period as the U-17 team staved off a frantic Soo rally that saw the Indians score their three goals in the final period, the last coming with just :14 showing on the clock.
