Rollers name general manager/head coach

Hammond, IN. The ABA Hammond Rollers today named former NBA and University of Illinois star Kenny Battle as General Manager/Head Coach of the expansion team that begins play in November. According to Denise Pulphus, team owner, "From day one, Kenny is the man we wanted to lead us and I can't tell you how pleased we are. We will have a great team."

Prior to attending the University of Illinois where he was team captain for two years and led the Fighting Illini to a Final Four appearance in 1989, Battle attended Northern Illinois University where he was team captain and named to the NIU Hall of Fame. At Illinois, he was voted Illinois' most popular player of all time and an annual U of I award has also been named in Battle's honor.

He was a first round draft choice of the Detroit Pistons in the 1989 NBA draft, began his pro career being traded to the Phoenix Suns. He also played for the NBA's Denver Nuggets, Golden State Warriors and Boston Celtics.

Kenny has coached with the legendary Harlem Globetrotters and spent two seasons as Head Coach with IIT in Chicago. He has his ownn youth program called KB-Hoops which hosts basketball clinics throughout the state of Illinois and soon to be Indiana. "I love the game, whether its kids or adults. This is a tremendous opportunity for me," said Battle. "And I can't wait to get this season started. I'm calling for all basketball players who are looking to compete and advance their game to register and come out September 16th to the Hammond Rollers tryout camp.
