ABA to release 2006 schedule next week
September 8, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release
Indianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that it would release the 2006 ABA schedule of games early next week. According to Brad Hester, VP of Team Operations, "We have just completed three conference meetings at which we worked out the basic home schedules for the teams. With at least 56 teams and with the recent decisions of several teams to delay play until 2007, it has not been an easy task. But we finally have it worked out - at least 95% worked out."
"The task of developing a full referee program that could handle over a thousand games in three countries (US, Mexico and Canada) was a challenge also and we're happy to say that we have that worked out also. Our staff of referees is about 300 strong and they're all well trained and ready," stated Tom Chichester, ABA Director of Officials.
"Brad was given a very difficult assignment putting the schedule together," added Joe Newman, ABA CEO. "Adding and subtracting teams as late as this week, along with creating inter-divisional and inter-country play to happen, was not easy. We'll have the Mexican and Canadian teams coming to the US and vice versa; Beijing traveling to other parts of the country as well as the new Hollywood Fame playing in several cities outside their division and conference. Fans across the country will get a chance to see some of these exciting new teams - and the schedule should be ready next week."
"I do want to say thank you to the team owners," concluded Hester. "They have been fabulous to work with, providing dates, venues and being very flexible and working with one another to make travel as easy as possible and to accommodate one another. What was a very difficult task was made much easier by their cooperation and spirit. This, being my first time doing the schedule, could have been much harder. Thanks teams. You were great."
