Rogues Polish off Gems

MEDFORD, OR - The Medford Rogues snapped a two-game losing streak by defeating the Klamath Falls Gems 7-4 tonight at Harry and David Field. With the win, the Rogues now hold a 24-25 record in league play and are four games behind the second place Bend Elks. The Gems now hold a 12-37 league record.

With the win, Medford is now 4 ½ games behind the Bend Elks for the WCL's wild card spot, with five games to play. Bend has six to play and starts a three-game series with Corvallis at Bend on Tuesday. Corvallis leads the WCL South by four games over the Elks.

Christian Cox (2-2) started on the mound for the Rogues tonight and pitched eight solid innings to pick up the win. Cox only allowed five hits for two runs while recording six strikeouts and holds a season ERA of 3.21.Tyler Bennett came on in relief for the final inning and recorded four hits for two runs, two earned runs, and two strikeouts.

For Klamath Falls, pitcher Kyle Detwiler (0-6) took the loss with 5 innings pitched for ten hits, seven runs, seven earned runs, three walks, and three strikeouts. Detwiler's ERA for the season so far is 6.90.

The Rogues were led offensively by third baseman Adonis Morrison and left fielder Levi Pereira. Morrison recorded three at bats for one run, two hits, and two RBI's while his batting average for the season sit at .221. Pereira led the Rogues with three at bats for one run, one hit, and three RBI's for a season batting average of .227.

First baseman Nathan Etheridge continued his hot hitting streak for the Rogues as he set a new team record for hits in a season. Etheridge currently has 54 hits this season breaking 2013 Rogue Kevin Davidson's record of 53 hits. Against Klamath, Etheridge had four at bats for one run and two hits while his batting average now stands at .333.

Also setting a record tonight, center fielder Spencer Smith now holds the West Coast League record for hit by pitches in a season with 18. The previous record was held by Ty Rubio who had 17 in 2008.

The Rogues face Klamath once again tomorrow evening at 6:35pm at Harry and David Field.

The West Coast League is a 12-team collegiate wood-bat baseball league composed of the best college players, coaches, facilities and operators in the industry. Ranging from Medford, Oregon north to Kelowna, B.C., and the league has operated as the WCL since 2005. In June, 56 WCL players were selected in the Major League draft.
