Medford Rogues News Release

MEDFORD, OR - It was a close victory but a victory none the less as the Medford Rogues managed to hold off the visiting Kelowna Falcons 10-9 tonight at Harry and David Field in game two of their three game series. With the win, the Rogues now sit with a 19-16 record and a game off second place Bend in the South Division and three behind first place Corvallis. Kelowna now holds an 11-24 record in the East Division.

Kelowna jumped to an early lead thanks to a first inning homer by Josh Croft and two runs in the second to leave the visitors with a 3-0 lead. However, Medford finally woke up in the third inning as they exploded for five runs to take a slim 5-4 lead. The fourth inning brought more of the same with the Rogues adding another four to their tally and holding a commanding 9-4. The Rogues added their final score of the night in the fifth ending their total at 10.

Similar to the previous night, Kelowna refused to go quietly and battled their way back in the ninth with four runs. The Rogues hung on enough to finish the Falcons off with a slim 10-9 victory.

On offense, DH Nathan Etheridge and RF Christian Cox each provided the offensive spark for the Rogues. Etheridge finished the night with five at bats for one run, three hits, and two RBI's. Cox ended with also five at bats for one run, two hits, and three RBI's for a season average of .321.

On defense, Rogues pitcher and WCL All-Star Nathan Kuchta (4-1) recorded the win from six innings pitched for seven hits, five runs, four earned runs, two walks, and three strikeouts. Kuchta currently holds a season ERA of 2.64. For Kelowna, pitcher Matthew Moriarty (0-4) recorded the loss from three innings pitched for five hits, eight runs, eight earned runs, four walks, and no strikeouts while his ERA sits at 10.18.

The Rouges and the Falcons face off in the final game of the series tomorrow at Harry and David Field with game time set for 6:35 p.m. Medford then joins the rest of the WCL in a two-day All-Star break with the 2014 All-Star Game scheduled for Monday in Klamath Falls. Saturday is also a bobble head night at the field with the Rogues unveiling their Kyle Singler bobble head.
