Medford Rogues News Release
MEDFORD, OR - The Medford Rogues today announced the commitment of six players to the 2013 roster. Joining the team for the summer season are SS Brody Weiss (UC Santa Barbara), OF Shakeel Newton (Genesee JC), RHP Anthony Shew (UC Santa Barbara), LHP Mac Acker (U. of Washington) and catchers Bo Cornish (U. of Portland) and Stephen Kha (Corban University).
Weiss, currently a senior at Regis Jesuit High in Castle Rock, CO, is the son of 1988 American League Rookie of the Year Walt Weiss, who starred for the Oakland A's and is currently the manager of the Major League Colorado Rockies. Weiss also coached his son at Regis Jesuit last spring. The younger Weiss is ticketed for UC Santa Barbara and was named to the USA Baseball National Team of Stars in June.
Cornish and Acker are veterans of the West Coast League. Cornish played the previous two summers with the Klamath Falls Gems, while Acker played briefly for Cowlitz in 2011. He also played summer baseball in the Alaska League in 2011 and played for Green Bay of the Northwoods League in 2012. Newton and Shew are new to the West Coast League, though Newton played summer ball with Niagara of the New York Collegiate Baseball League in 2012.
