Columbia Inferno News Release
COLUMBIA, SC (August 18, 2004) - The Columbia Inferno announce the signing of forward Robin Carruthers for the 2004-2005 season. Carruthers joins teammates Sean Owens, Mike Roemensky, Aaron Smith, Walker McDonald and Matt Ulwelling as the sixth player signed by the Inferno this season.
The 27-year-old native of Virden, Manitoba had 27 goals and 34 assists in 71 games in 2003-04 including 62 penalty minutes. In his first pro season Carruthers produced 23 goals and 18 assists, good for 41 points for the Inferno.
"Robin has been a major contributor to our success in his first two pro seasons and I look for that trend to continue," said Head Coach Scott White. "He is one of our leaders in our locker room and well respected amongst his teammates and that leadership role will be even more important as we re-tool for 2004-05."
Carruthers spent four years with St. Lawrence University prior to joining Columbia in 2002.
Carruthers said, "I am excited to come back to Columbia for a third season. In the dressing room we have a good bunch of guys and I think we have something to prove after a short disappointing playoff season last year. There is a good core coming back and we hope to get it done and have another successful year. The fans of Columbia are great support and I have lots of friends here and excited to return this season."
The Inferno open the 2004-2005 season on Friday, October 22nd at 7:30pm hosting the South Carolina Stingrays. Season tickets, partial season packages and group tickets are now available by calling 256-7825.
