Rockies win series opener in the ninth

The Casper Rockies won their third straight game Sunday evening, 6-5, opening a three-game set versus the Orem Owlz. Kyle Blumenthal ended the game with a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the 9th.

Casper got down early to the Owlz with Orem chasing Rockies starter Alan Johnson after only two innings. Then Casper slugger Trevor Allen tied the game with a 4th inning, three-run homer, his 5th of the season. Both teams enjoyed solid middle relief pitching. Casper got shutout innings from Ross Hipke, Byron Binda, and Brett Strickland, who earned the win.

Casper and Orem continue their series Monday night with a 7:05 first pitch from Mike Lansing Field in Casper. Daniel Hawkins is the scheduled pitcher for Orem versus the Rockies Brandon Durden.
