Casper, WY – The Casper Rockies Professional Baseball Club announced today the signing of former Natrona County Mustang Jesse Brownell. Brownell recently completed his college career at the University of Iowa. The Rockies coaching staff envisions Brownell as a utility type player for them this season.

As a member of the Casper Oilers American Legion team in 2001 Brownell led the Oilers to a state runner-up finish. He hit .510 with 16 home runs with the Oilers. Brownell then played at Lamar College in Colorado before heading to Iowa to play for the Hawkeyes. Brownell drove in 26 runs for Iowa in 2004 in addition to hitting a team high 4 triples. This past season Brownell played the season with a broken hand and still finished with a .200 batting average and nine RBI in 42 games.

Colorado Rockies Assistant Director of Player Development Mark Gustafson said about the Casper native, "The Rockies are excited about having some local talent in Casper . . . (Brownell) will fill a number of roles with the team."

The Casper Rockies 2005 players report to camp starting today June 13, and begin play on the 21st at home versus the Idaho Falls Chukars.

The Casper Rockies will also be holding Media Day Wednesday, June 15 at 10:00 am at Mike Lansing Field prior to the team workout.
