Casper - The Colorado Rockies have agreed to terms with the club's second selection (47th overall, supplemental round) in the 2010 First-Year Player Draft, right-handed pitcher Peter Tago out of Dana Hills High School in Dana Point, Calif and have assigned him to the Casper Ghosts, the teams Advanced Rookie level affiliate.
"We are very excited to be able to add Peter Tago to the Colorado Rockies organization, and we look forward to his contributions," said Rockies Vice President of Scouting Bill Schmidt.
Tago, 18-years-old, 6-foot-3 and 190 pounds, went 10-3 with a 2.77 ERA (86.0 ip, 34 er) with 21 walks and 97 strikeouts for Dana Hills High School as a senior in 2010. Tago was ranked as the 18th best right-handed pitcher available in the draft by Baseball America. The same publication also rated Tago the 36th best player overall in the draft, and the 5th best prospect from the state of California. In Tago's final start in high school he tossed a 7.0-inning complete game in which he struck out 13 and walked just two batters. Tago struck out 10 batters or more in four of his 14 starts this season for Dana Hills.
Tago will join the club during it's Montana road trip and return to Casper with the team on Tuesday August 24, 2010. Tickets are still available and may be purchased by calling 307-232-1111 or by going to ghostsbaseball.com.
