July 23, 2005 - Pioneer League (PL)
Casper Ghosts News Release
Fireworks started and ended the evening Friday night at Mike Lansing Field in Casper. The Rockies Cole Garner hit a two-run homerun in the first inning and Bret Berglund hit a two-run shot in the second to give the Rockies an early 4-1 lead.
Then Billings struck back when Willy Jo Ronda hit a three-run blast that tied the game 4-4 until the ninth.
The Rockies Chris Cook started the ninth with a single. With Dexter Fowler running for Cook, Berglund doubled down the line to left. The Mustangs then intentionally walked Mauris Loupaidere to load the bases. Billings then brought in a fifth infielder to try and cut down Fowler on a ground ball. However, the first pitch to Radames Nazario from Kenny Geiersbach sailed wide for a wild pitch scoring the winning run from third.
The win snapped Billings' seven-game win streak and pulled the Rockies to 15-16 on the season.
Jay Metzger gets the nod for Casper tomorrow, he'll throw against Jose Rojas of Billings. "Little e", a 4-foot-2 Elvis impersonator makes his only visit to Casper on Saturday. It will also be American Flag-Casper Rockies baseball giveaway to the first 1,000 fans through the gates at Lansing Field.
