Rockies drop Labor Day Matinee

September 5, 2005 - Pioneer League (PL)
Casper Ghosts News Release

There were plenty of fireworks in the Rockies and Chukars Labor Day game at Lansing Field on Monday. The two clubs combined for six home runs in the 15-8 Chukars win. Casper first baseman Chris Cook bombed two solo shots off of Chukars starter Chris Nicoll and DH Kyle Blumenthal hit a three-run bomb in the 6th.

Idaho Falls got long balls from Josh Colamenia, Jace Turner, and Josh Johnson. Johnson's 3rd inning bomb was a grand slam, part of a six-run inning.

The Rockies made the game interesting after Blumenthal's blast, cutting the Chukars lead to 12-7 but Bryan Rupp's club kept putting runs on the board against the erratic Casper pitchers. Starter Anuery Rodriguez pitched only two innings, allowing four earned runs. Manuel Pichardo, Ricky De Los Santos, Robinson Fabian and Lindsey Webb finished the game for Casper. Rodriguez took the loss, falling to 3-4. Nicoll for Idaho Falls pitched four innings and struck out a season-high ten. Reliever Travis Trammell earned the win for Idaho Falls.

The Rockies are still in the hunt for the playoffs but need a couple of Orem losses to Ogden over the next two nights.

Casper and Idaho Falls wrap up their four-game series at 7:05 on Tuesday. Lefty Xavier Cedeno takes the hill for Casper versus righty Bennett Cromer.
