Rockford IceHogs News Release

Rockford, Ill.-Rockford IceHogs Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Steve Martinson announced on Wednesday, that the United Hockey League club has signed forward Jason Notermann and center Preston Mizzi for the 2005-06 season. Per club policy, terms of the agreements were not disclosed.

Notermann enters his third full season in the pro ranks after skating for the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies (ECHL) in 04-05. The 5'-10" winger notched 28g-27a-55pts in 67 contests for the Boardwalk Bullies. Notermann ranked second on the club in goals and third in scoring.

The winger played collegiatley at the University of North Dakota before turning pro in 02-03 after his senior season. During his rookie campaign, the Rochester, Minnesota native notched 25 goals while skating with the Johnstown Chiefs (ECHL). Notermann also earned a call-up to the Binghamton Senators (AHL) during his rookie season.

"These are two top AA players that are coming to Rockford because of our AHL opportunities," said Martinson. "Both of these guys are gritty and talented players. Our philosophy is to recruit younger motivated players that are looking for opportunities to move up rather then the high priced veteran player."

Mizzi comes to Rockford after splitting time last season with the Dayton Bombers (ECHL) and Reading Royals (ECHL). The 2005-06 season is Mizzi's fifth professionally. During his four-year career, the 5'-11" center has spent 31 games in the AHL.

During his rookie season, Mizzi played 27 games with Syracuse Crunch (AHL), plus six playoff contests. After beginning the season in Dayton last year, Mizzi was traded to Reading where he tallied 17g-18a-35pts in 52 games.

With Mizzi and Notermann, the IceHogs now have seven players under contract for the 2005-06 season. Also on the roster are forwards Bruce Watson and Chad Woollard and defensemen Ryan Carrigan, Nathan Lutz and Steve Pelletier.
