Rockford Rampage News Release

ROCKFORD, Ill. -- The Rockford Rampage fell to the Philadelphia KiXX, 8-7, on Sunday in Major Indoor Soccer League play at the MetroCentre.

Rockford dropped its fourth straight match and fell to 1-4 against the KiXX this season.

Next up for the Rampage is a 5:05 p.m. match on Sunday, Feb. 21, against the Baltimore Blast at the MetroCentre. This is Rockford's second match in its three-game homestand before heading out on the road for the final leg of the regular season.

The Rampage (6-8) nearly overcame an 8-2 fourth-quarter deficit, with Geison Moura scoring his second of two goals and Matthew Stewart tallying a three-pointer to cut the deficit to one point. But Philadelphia (4-6) held Rockford in check for the final 7:48 en route to the victory.

KiXX defender Pat Morris had the game-winning goal in the fourth quarter before being called for a violent red card later in the frame. He will miss Saturday's home game against La RaZa de Monterrey.

The Rampage and KiXX both had a tough time trying to find the goal in the first quarter Sunday, combining for only three shots on goal -- one by Rockford.

Philadelphia finally broke the drought when Ptah Myers tapped in a goal off of Ryan Heins' assist at the 10:59 mark of the second quarter to give the KiXX a 2-0 lead. The KIXX kept the ball rolling when previously retired Don D'Ambra netted a power play goal at the 13:18 mark, with Adauto Neto assisting, giving Philadelphia a 4-0 lead.

Philadelphia added to its momentum with 0.8 seconds left in the half when Neto tallied a goal to give the KiXX a 6-0 lead. KiXX goalkeeper Sanaldo assisted with a quick outlet pass with time winding down.

The Rampage finally put a dent on the scoreboard when Moura's shot trickled in past Sanaldo to cut the KiXX's lead to 6-2 at the 3:06 mark of the third quarter. Gary Brooks assisted, and Brooks broke to the goal quickly enough where he could have tapped in the ball if it hadn't already crossed the goal line.

Penalties hampered the Rampage in the early stages of the fourth quarter, with Samuel Ogunsanya called for tripping at the 0:37 mark and the Rampage called for too many men on the field at the 0:56 mark. Rockford goalkeeper Ante Cop did come through with one critical save on Ricardinho's shootout penalty kick. But with the Rampage down two men against the KiXX, Morris capitalized with a power play goal at the 1:18 mark for an 8-2 lead.

Moura and Stewart tallied fourth-quarter goals at the 6:52 and 7:12 mark, respectively. Stewart's three-pointer came at the 7:12 mark to cut Philadelphia's lead to 8-7, but the Rampage could get no closer.

In the net, Cop had five saves for the Rampage and Sanaldo had 18 saves for the KiXX.
