LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO --- The Rockford IceHogs have taken the leading role in the league's offensive production in goals (57), assists (99) and points (156). Unbeaten in their last six games, Rockford is off to the best start in team history.
Rockford center Olivier Proulx earned recognition as the UHL's Sher-Wood Player of the Week with four goals, five assists, nine points and a plus/minus rating of +7 during the Hogs four-game week. The IceHogs early success can be attributed to team efforts as well as individual performances by forward Jean-Francois Dufour (8G,12A,20PTS), and left winger J.C. Ruid (10G,8A,18PTS). Through 14 games, the IceHogs plus/minus rating is +106 compared to last seasons plus/minus of -240.
Fury Fever Ends.The 2003-04 Colonial Cup Champion Muskegon Fury had their winning streak snapped on Saturday night against the Flint Generals losing 5-1. But the Fury look to make league history with its next win as they will become the first team in UHL history to reach 500-victories.
AROUND THE LEAGUE
Adirondack Frostbite - (2-0-0) - This weekend goalie Derek Gustafson stopped 54 of 56 shots and in his last nine starts has a record of 6-1-2.The Frostbite are unbeaten when leading after the first or second period (5-0-0). The Frostbite have at least one power play goal in their last seven games (10-36). During that span, the power play has gone from last in the league to third.Left winger Hugo Belanger is three points shy of recording 500 in his five seasons with Adirondack.
Danbury Trashers - (2-1-0) - The Trashers made the most of their first home game in two weeks, with a wild 6-4 win over the Elmira Jackals on Sunday night at the Danbury Ice Arena.Forward John Morlang set a team record with a four-point night (2G, 2A), while left winger Brad Wingfield compiled 22 penalty minutes before his second period exit. Elmira Jackals - (2-2-0) - Right wing Carl Drakensjo is riding a four-game assist streak.Center Greg Koehler leads the UHL scoring with 27 points and league best 16 goals through 15 games.Goaltender Greg Hewitt leads the UHL in Wins (8), Minutes (778), Saves (424) and Shootout Wins (2). Center Jeff Antonovich is on a seven-game point scoring streak registering ten points.
Flint Generals - (2-1-0) - Right wing Rob Valicevic scored two short-handed goals last week and has registered at least one point in 9 of 11 games. Right wing Mike Kinnie continues to lead all rookies in goals scored with seven.The Generals are one of four teams to have less than 30 goals allowed after a minimum of 11 games played.Three of the six team victories have been shutouts.
Fort Wayne Komets - (1-2-0) - The Komets are an even .500 (6-6-1) after 13 games and 5 weeks of the 2004-05 UHL season.Scoring in regulation for Fort Wayne Friday night were right wingers Kevin Kotyluk and Jonathan Goodwin and defenseman Steve Rodberg. It was Goodwin's first goal of the season. Netminder Tyler Masters registered the win, stopping 28 of 31 shots in regulation and turning back all four Rockford shooters in the extra frame.Saturday was Missouri's first win over the Komets in the last 10 meetings.
Kalamazoo Wings - (1-2-0) - Defenseman Chad Allan played in his 500th career game on Saturday and goalie Chad Alban recorded his 15th career shutout and 10th as a member of the K-Wings last Friday. Defenseman Daniel Carriere is tied for third in the UHL among all players and tied for first among the league's defensemen in plus/minus with a +10 rating.The K-Wings have outshot their opponents 374-294 this season.Only two of the K-Wings next nine games will be at home.
Kansas City Outlaws - (0-2-0) - After holding a 4-1 record in their first five games, the Outlaws stumbled on the road losing six of the last eight games making their record 6-7.Right wing Joe Seroski continues to hold second in the league for number of goals (13) and leads the league with a shooting percentage of .433.
Missouri River Otters - (2-0-1) - Netminder Jason Tapp leads the UHL with 4 shutouts.The River Otters have given up the second fewest number of goals in the UHL (28).The Otters are tied for the best penalty killing in the league at 90.4 percent.The Otters are the third least penalized team in the league, averaging only 18.5 PIMs per game.
Motor City Mechanics - (0-3-0) - On Wednesday night, right winger Jason Norrie and defenseman Wade Paterson notched power play goals.Right wing Joe Burton was a top performer this week with two assists Wednesday and a goal against the RiverDogs on Friday. November 21st will mark the very first Mechanics broadcast on 1310 AM WXDX. Fan favorite Karen Newman will perform the National Anthem.
Muskegon Fury - (2-1-0) - The Fury rank 2nd in the league for most goals for per game (4.09) while also ranking 2nd in the league for best goals against per game (2.36).Muskegon holds the top three in the UHL in PP/Points; Robin Bouchard (14); Brant Blackned (12); Todd Robinson (11). Right winger Scott Hollis played professional career game #700 on Friday night, garnering three assists and the game's #1 star in his team's 4-1 defeat over visiting Kansas City.Center Jeff Nelson recorded his 500th career assist Wednesday night.
Port Huron Beacons - (0-3-0) - Left winger Trevor Edwards ranks third in assists among rookies with seven and fourth in scoring among rookies with 10 points.Port Huron ranks second in road power play with a 23.3% mark.Left winger David Beauregard is riding a three-game scoring streak.
Quad City Mallards - (2-0-0) - Defenseman Terry Hollinger played his 700th and defenseman Brad Essex his 400th North American professional game Friday and Saturday night respectively.Defenseman Justin Brown scored his first professional goal on Saturday v. Kansas City.Forward Marty Standish and center Mike Kompon with right winger Paul Cabana combined for 11 points (3G, 8A) on Saturday v. Kansas City. Netminder Robert Gherson has the best goals against average in the UHL (1.45) and is tied for the league lead in save percentage (.948).
Richmond RiverDogs - (2-0-0) - The 'Dogs have won three straight games for the second time this season.The 'Dogs snapped an 0-26 power play slump with a power play goal Saturday v. Danbury. Goaltender Ryan McIntosh has won his first four starts in net and holds a UHL individual game high of 48 saves which is also a club record.Center Derek Schutz came out of retirement to fill in for the 'Dogs last weekend.
Rockford IceHogs - (2-0-2) - The IceHogs lead the UHL with 21 points in the standings(9-2-3).The club is also averaging 4.07 goals per game, second best in the league.Rockford tied a team record on Sunday against Missouri putting just 16 shots on goal.In four shootouts this season, Rockford has been held goalless in three of them and are 3-26 (11.5%) in the extra session overall.The IceHogs are seven games over .500 for the first time in team history.
