P.E.I. Rocket News Release

The P.E.I. Rocket Hockey Club will be honouring the co-winners of The Guardian Newsmaker of the year award Mark MacDonald and Jared Connaughton in a pre game ceremony prior to their game versus the Acadie-Bathurst Titan Friday January 13th.

PEI's Mark MacDonald made Canadian racing history in 2005 by setting an all time Canadian record for wins in a single season in harness racing. He has won over 23 Million in purse money in his career and now owns the record for most wins in a season at 692 smashing the old record of 643. He's nominated for Canadian driver of the year at the upcoming O'Brien awards in Toronto and will be crowned " the rising star award winner" at the Night of Stars awards banquet in Las Vegas in February.

New Haven's Jared Connaughton made Island sporting history last summer when he won two gold medals at the Canada Summer Games in Regina. Jared, who attends the University of Texas in Arlington, won both the 100m and 200m sprint gold medals, becoming the first Island athlete to win a track and field gold since Billy MacKinnon back in 1969. Jared has already represented his country, appearing at the World Junior Games in 2004, and is destined for an exciting career in international sprinting.
