
Rockets Drop Opener of Set with Victoria

The Kelowna Rockets fell 4-2 to the Victoria Royals on Tuesday night at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre on Tuesday night in their first of back-to-back games against the Royals.
The Rockets fell behind twice by a single goal, tying things up each time the two headed into the third period tied at two. Two of the Royals 20-year-olds found the back of the net, including an empty netter, to push the Royals past the Rockets.
Mark Liwiski and Gabriel Szturc were the goal scorers for the Rockets, while Talyn Boyko stopped 20 of the 23 shots he faced.
Marcus Almquist (2) jumped on a rebound to beat Rockets netminder Talyn Boyko 6:46 into the game. Max Graham's pass found Mark Liwiski (21) in tight to tie up the game. The Royals regained the lead before the end of the period with a goal from Riley Gannon (20).
Gabriel Szturc (15) netted the only goal of the second frame, firing home a power play goal with 16 seconds left on the clock.
Royals leading scorer Bailey Peach (34) continued his hot streak, scoring the game winner 13:43 into the third. Tarun Fizer (15) added an empty netter.
The Rockets outshot the Royals 30-24. Royals netminder Tyler Palmer stopped 28 of the 30 shots fired on him.
Kelowna was one-for-four on the power play, while the Royals were blanked on their two chances in the game.
The Rockets record moves to 34-17-1-5.
Kelowna will be back in action against the Royals again tomorrow night on the road when the two face-off at 7:05 pm. You can watch the game on CHL TV or listen on AM 1150.
The next Rockets home game is Saturday, March 26th when Kelowna will host the Kamloops Blazers for their 14th and final meeting of the regular season.
