Rocket City Takes Care of Tennessee in Game Five

KODAK, TN- The Tennessee Smokies got shutout for the second time this series, dropping game five to Rocket City by a final of 9-0. The Smokies were out-hit 13-3 in the loss, with both teams striking out twelve times throughout the game.

Rocket City scored a run in the third to break the scoreboard when Mariano Ricciardi singled on a line drive to right field, scoring Anthony Mulrine to take a 1-0 lead. The game got away from Tennessee in the top of the fifth inning when Rocket CIty scored seven runs in the frame. The Trash Pandas hit two home runs in the fifth inning, a three run home run by Gabe Mathews to make it 4-0, followed by a two run home run by Mulrine to cap off the inning and make it 8-0 Rocket City.

The Trash Pandas scored one more run in the sixth inning when Mathews grounded out to score David Calabrese and make it 9-0 Trash Pandas. Rocket City starter Brett Kerry picked up the victory tossing five shutout innings and striking out eight batters. Smokies starter Joe Nahas picked up a tough luck loss tossing 3.2 innings, allowing only one earned run, while striking out five batters.

The Smokies look to split the series tomorrow with a 2:00 P.M. start against the Trash Pandas. Kohl Franklin will take the hill for the Smokies and he will be opposed by Cole Percival, a rematch from Tuesday.
