Rocket Announce Trade and Exhibition Game Details

August 7, 2009 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
P.E.I. Rocket News Release

The PEI Rocket announced today that they have traded Simon Olsson's rights to the Baie-Comeau Drakkar for a 5th Round pick in the 2010 QMJHL Entry Draft.

"It is difficult to say goodbye to a fan favourite like Simon", said President and Governor, Serge Savard Jr. "But, having drafted two defensemen in the recent European Draft, we were in a difficult position. We definitely wanted to be fair to Simon and so we brokered a deal with Baie-Comeau to ensure that Simon gets the opportunity to play another year in the QMJHL", added Savard.

The QMJHL has a league policy that each team can dress only two European players per game and only three 20 year olds per game. "With Simon being a 20-year old European player, it definitely provides a slightly more complicated decision making process", said Savard. "At the end of the day, we are able to add two younger 18 year old European defensemen (Adam Polasek and Lauri Tokoi) and a new 20 year old in Samson Mahbod, who played an integral role with Drummondville in winning the President's Cup last year".

The Rocket are gearing up for an exciting year. The team on the ice is expected to shine with many returning veterans. Many improvements have been made off-ice as well. Training camp begins on August 19th with the arrival of all of the hopeful players. The regular season will begin at home in the Charlottetown Civic Centre on September 11th against the archrival Moncton Wildcats.

The Rocket will also play three exhibition games at home this season.

- August 22nd - versus the Halifax Mooseheads at 4:00 PM at the Cornwall APM Centre (limited to 1,000 fans)

- August 29th - versus the Acadie-Bathurst Titan at 7:00 PM at the Charlottetown Civic Centre

- September 4th - versus the Moncton Wildcats at 7:00 PM at the Charlottetown Civic Centre

The Rocket are pleased to announce that all exhibition games will feature a $5.00 admission price per person. The Cornwall APM Centre game (on August 22nd) will feature general admission seating, and the following two games at the Charlottetown Civic Centre (August 29th and September 4th) will feature regular reserved seating. "It will give our fans an opportunity to get a sneak peak at the team at a reduced price", said GM Kent Hudson. "We understand that pre-season hockey may be a lower quality than regular season, so we wanted to reduce the price".

Tickets will be on sale shortly for these games as more details will be announced in the very near future.
