Rock Lose Scott Dominey in NLL Expansion Draft

June 29, 2021 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Toronto Rock News Release

Oakville, ON - On Tuesday evening, the NLL's 14th team, the Panther City Lacrosse Club selected one player from each of the existing 13 NLL teams at the 2021 NLL Expansion Draft. Panther City LC selected defender Scott Dominey from the list of eligible players left unprotected by the Rock.

Immediately following the draft, Dominey was traded by Panther City to the New York Riptide in exchange for Dawson Theede.

"We're sorry to see Scott go," said Rock Owner, President and GM Jamie Dawick. "The defensive part of our roster is an area of depth for us and it will help us deal with the loss of Scott. It's a great opportunity for him to be an every day player in this league and we wish him all the best."

Dominey burst upon the scene during the 2018-19 season and scored a goal, in what would become true Scott Dominey fashion, in his first and only game that season. In 2019-20, he earned the nickname 'The Flash' for his ability to streak past defenders in transition and score timely goals for the Rock. He quickly became a fan-favourite by scoring big goals in big moments in games.

Following the selection and subsequent trade of Dominey, another post-draft trade was completed that sent Rock defender Taylor Stuart and Toronto's 2021 2nd Round pick to Panther City LC in exchange for Panther City LC's 2022 2nd Round Pick.

"Depending on who Panther City selected from our roster, there was an opportunity for a trade to be made," explained Dawick. "When we traded for Taylor there was hope he'd be able to relocate to Ontario and live here, however through the pandemic things have changed and that wasn't the situation any longer. We needed to move Taylor to a U.S. western based team, and Panther City was looking for depth on the back end and it was just a deal that worked for everyone."

The Rock acquired Stuart from the Colorado Mammoth in exchange for a second round pick in February of 2020. The Coquitlam, BC native played five games for the Rock, scoring once and adding an assist, picking up 30 loose balls. His goal came on the road in Saskatchewan amidst the Rock's biggest win of 2020.
