Rock Cats Will Honor Region's First Responders on 8th Anniversary of 9/11
September 10, 2009 - Eastern League (EL1)
New Britain Rock Cats News Release
New Britain, CT - As the Rock Cats get ready for their first home Playoff game in six years tomorrow night, the Eastern League club is also preparing a tribute to America's First Responders with a special pre-game ceremony at New Britain Stadium on the eighth anniversary of the worst terrorist attack on domestic soil in United States history.
In keeping with our national resolve to "Never Forget" the horrific events of September 11, 2001, the Rock Cats will be conducting an on-field ceremony to recognize those public employees who, like their counterparts across America eight years ago, face considerable peril as they fulfill their oath "to protect and serve" the general public. Accordingly, members of local Police and Fire Departments - as well as Emergency Medical Services personnel and, of course, those serving in the United States Military - will be with us at the Stadium on Friday night so we may salute them!
Personnel from the Middletown and Vernon Public Safety Departments will serve as the Color Guard for the evening's special pre-game program.
Following the ceremony, the Rock Cats will engage their cross-state foe, the Norwich-based Connecticut Defenders, in Game 3 of the 2009 Eastern League Northern Division Championship Series.
