Rochester Red Wings News Release
Durham Bulls (25-16) @ Rochester Red Wings (16-25)
Frontier Field - Rochester, NY - 7:05 p.m.
RHP Jim Paduch (1-2, 7.48) vs. LHP Andrew Albers (0-0, 2.75)
TODAY'S GAME: Ray Olmedo's game-winning, walk-off, 2-run single on Thursday snapped a 3-game losing streak and gives the Wings a chance to split the 4-game series with the Durham Bulls (Rays) on Friday night (7:05 p.m.) in the series finale... Still, the Wings have dropped 6 of their last 8 games and 11 of their last 18 overall after a season-high 4-game winning streak (4/24-4/27)... Despite the loss, Durham remains one-game in front of Pawtucket for the IL wild card lead and sits 4.0-games back of Norfolk in the IL South... Next, the Wings will hit the road for 4-game series with Lehigh Valley starting Saturday night before returning to Rochester to open another 8-game homestand next Thursday vs. Charlotte.
WITH A WIN TONIGHT...:
-The Wings will win 2 games in row for the first time since May 7-8 and only the 2nd time since 4-game win streak (4/24-4/27)
-The Wings will earn a split of the 4-game series with Durham and finish the homestand at 3-5.
CLIMBING THE CHARTS: After another multi-hit and multi-RBI day on Thursday (2-for-3, HR, 2 RBI), Chris Colabello continues to climb the ranks of the IL's elite players this season... He currently ranks 1st in the IL in TB (100), T-1st in hits (54) and HR (11), T-2nd in extra-base hits (24), 3rd in SLG (.641) and RBI (31) and T-3rd in average (.346)... The Wings first baseman is currently riding an 8-game hit streak (14-29 (.483); 5 2B, 3 HR, 5 R, 9 RBI) and has at least one hit in 17 of his last 18 games overall (.397; 29-of-73, 9 2B, 5 HR, 13 R, 14 RBI)... On the season he has a hit in 33 of 41 games (80%)
-Colabello is on pace to hit 38 home runs and 109 RBI... It would be the first 30-HR, 100-RBI season since Jim Fuller in 1973
GET THE GUY A WIN: Wings starter LHP Andrew Albers is still in search of his first Triple-A win although by no fault of his own as he enters play tonight with a 2.75 ERA in 7 GS this season -- 8th-best in the IL. In fact, he enters his start Friday without allowing an earned run in the last 14.1 IP -- since a 2-R Josh Thole HR on 4/30 vs. BUF... Rochester is just 2-5 in starts made by the southpaw this season and in the 5 losses, Albers has allowed just 5 runs (3 ER) on 23 hits and 4 walks in 28.0 IP (0.96 ERA). In those 5 GS, the Wings offense has scored a total of just 7 runs... Conversely, in the 2 games the Wings have won, Albers has allowed 8 runs on 13 hits and 5 walks in 8.0 innings (9.00 ERA). The Wings offense scored 15 runs behind Albers in those 2 GS.
-Albers has recorded 3 straight "quality starts" but is 0-2 with just a 0.98 ERA (2ER/18.1IP) in those starts.
-Albers owns the longest scoreless streak by a Wings pitcher this season -- 13.1 IP from 4/30-5/11
WALK THIS WAY: The Red Wings won their first game in walk-off fashion Thursday on Ray Olmedo's bases loaded, two-run, single in the bottom of the 9th inning. The win was also the Red Wings first win this season when trailing after 8 innings (1-17) and just their 2nd comeback win when trailing in the 7th inning or later. Since the start of the 2011 season, the Wings are just 5-153 when trailing after 8 innings... The Wings had 5 walk-off wins in 2012.
SETTING THE BAR: Red Wings reliever LHP Caleb Thielbar has been the most consistent Red Wings reliever of late after 2 more shutout innings on Wednesday behind Cole De Vries. Since allowing 5 earned runs on five hits in an outing for the first time since 5/21/10 (Wisconsin, A), Thielbar has responded by allowing just 3 hits in 10.1 scoreless innings over his last 6 appearances dropping his ERA from 6.60 to 3.91... On the season, he also has the best SO/9 inn. ratio on the team (11.7; 33 SO/25.1 IP) striking out at least one batter in 15 of 16 appearances and multiple batters in 9 outings... He has been lights out at home, allowing just 2 ER in 15.0 IP (1.20 ERA), compared to 9 ER in 10.1 IP on the road (7.84).
-Dynamite Late: Thielbar has yet to allow an earned run in the 7th inning or later (12.2 IP)... In the 6th inning and earlier, he has a 7.24 ERA (11 ER/13.2 IP)
BULLED OVER: The Durham Bulls claimed the 2011 and 2012 season series against the Red Wings, 6-2, and have now won 14 of the last 19 games between the two teams... The Bulls have outscored the Red Wings 56-35 and out-hit them 105-62 in taking 5 of the last 7 games from Rochester at Frontier Field dating back to last season. The last time the Wings won a series against the Bulls at home was 2008 (3-1) -- the same year of their last season series win over Durham (5-3)... Since 2003, Rochester is now 34-48 against Durham, including a 20-22 mark at Frontier Field.
-The Red Wings are winless in 15 all-time series (0-8-7) at Durham Bulls Athletic Park
YOU FIRST? : After going 47-19 last year in games they scored first in, the Red Wings are currently just 9-12 this season in games they score the first run. The Wings are the only team in the league with a losing record when scoring first.
-Norfolk is an IL-best 22-3 when scoring the games first run...The Wings are 7-13 when the opponent scores first.
