Published on February 5, 2011 under Premier Basketball League (PBL)
Rochester RazorSharks News Release
This is the first of four games between the 2010 Premier Basketball League playoff finalists. Rochester attempts to avoid a franchise record tying fourth straight defeat. Lawton-Fort Sill tries to improve on a league best 7-1 record playing back to back nights at home.
The RazorSharks (2-5) play without franchise scoring leader Keith Friel and newly acquired Mike Williams, who led the PBL in scoring while with the Vermont Frost Heaves. Both are injured.
Forward Sammy Monroe returns to duty. Monroe averaged 16.6 points per game over two previous seasons with the Sharks. He was a member of the 2008 and 2009 PBL championship teams.
Demetrius Howard plays for the first time since scoring six points opening night.
Rochester has lost consecutive games at Saint John, Quebec and Halifax. The Sharks have lost four in a row just once before, dropping the last two games of their playoff series at LFS last year and the first two games of this season.
They are 1-4 overall against the Cavalry.
The Cavalry (7-1) bounced back from their first defeat with a 104-89 win over Kentucky Friday night. Shaun Fountain scored a season high 20. LFS got 12 rebounds each from Shawn Daniels and Jamaal Davis.
The Cavalry shoot and defend well. They lead the PBL in field goal percentage offense and field goal percentage defense.
LFS is 4-0 at home this season outscoring its opponents by a total of 72 points, an average of 18 per game.
Of note: Following this game, the RazorSharks play their next seven at home.
Of note: Rochester's worst defeat ever came at Lawton last season in a 115-88 loss in March.
Of note: The Cavalry haven't lost a home game since coming into the PBL from the CBA last season. LFS is now 17-0 at the Great Plains Coliseum.
Quoteable: Shark's Assistant Coach Chris Iversen on the Cavalry, "They win with hard work, unselfishness, rebounding and playing defense. They have the best record in the league. Imagine what our record would be if we played like that for an entire game."
