March 12, 2011 - Premier Basketball League (PBL)
Rochester RazorSharks News Release
This is the back end of a home and home series between the Sharks and Stallions. Rochester won at Blue Cross Arena 118-113 on Thursday.
The RazorSharks (8-7) won six of seven in a home stand that lasted a full month. The last time Rochester played on the road was February 5 in a loss to Lawton-Fort Sill.
After a 2-6 start the RazorSharks have climbed back into the playoff picture by winning six of seven. At present Rochester sits in a third place tie with Halifax, a half a game ahead of Saint John.
The RazorSharks have beaten Kentucky two out of three with the home team winning all three. The margin of victory has been three, four and five points. On Thursday, Rochester ran off to a 25 point 1st quarter lead before hanging on to win 118-113. Fred Durr scored a career high 26 points.
Rochester will be back to full strength. Center Jared Carter and forward Mike Williams should be healthy. Williams didn't play on Thursday.
The Bluegrass Stallions (5-12) have lost four in a row, all on the road, and nine of ten overall. The Stallions are 1-8 on the road. 4-4 at home. They're home for two of their last three games (including this one).
Kenny Jones scored 26 against the Sharks to raise his average to 19.4 points per game. That ranks second in the league behind Quebec's Quinnell Brown. Jones has led the Stallions in points 15 times in their 16 games. His .619 field goal percentage leads the PBL.
Of note: Kentucky is one of three PBL teams to change coaches this year. Former assistant coach Jaron Brown replaced Jay Shidler. Halifax and Dayton also made in-season moves.
Of note: Rochester's Fred Durr had the two best scoring games of his career against the Blue Grass Stallions. He scored 21 at Kentucky back in January and 26 last Thursday.
Of note: This is the first of four straight road games for the Sharks. They play at Kentucky, at Dayton, at LFS and at Dayton again. The last game of the regular season is March 26 against Kentucky.
Quotable: Rochester Coach Rod Baker on going back on the road, "Sometimes being on the road is easier than being at home. All you're concerned with is basketball. You don't have regular life problems. Laundry and cooking dinner and family members and stuff like that. When you're on the road it's just you."
