Milwaukee Wave United News Release
Milwaukee, WI â The Rochester Raging Rhinos showed no signs of fatigue following their 2-1 win over Minnesota yesterday (6/14), scoring three goals to beat the Milwaukee Wave United 3-0 in an A-League contest played before 2,468 at Uihlein Soccer Park. Wave United was looking to win their second home game in a row following last Sunday's (6/8) 4-0 triumph over Portland, but it was unable to stop Rochester which was playing its fifth game in nine days including two Can-Am Cup Games which do not count in the A-League standings. Milwaukee fell to 4-3-0 (12 points) as it remained in fourth place in the Central Division while Northeast Division leading Rochester improved to 7-2-2 (23 points).
The first goal by the Raging Rhinos came in the 11th minute when Kirk Wilson crossed the ball from the right side over to Ian Fuller on the left who was able to push the ball past Milwaukee Wave United goalkeeper Jim Larkin. The score was the earliest Rochester has netted a goal this season.
Doug Miller put the Raging Rhinos up 2-0 in the 27th minute when he saw Larkin come out high and took advantage of the opportunity, chipping the ball into the back of the net. Miller is second in the A-League with eight goals scored this season.
Rochester got started right where they left off in the second half as Kirk Wilson blasted a shot from the left side off the long pass from Lenin Steenkamp, giving the Raging Rhinos a 3-0 lead in the 56th minute. Milwaukee got some good looks at the goal, but was unable to capitalize and get anything going on the offensive end.
Milwaukee outshot Rochester 14-12, but did not create nearly as many scoring chances as the Rhinos. Rochester goalkeeper Bill Andracki, who posted his fourth shutout of the season, finished with seven saves while Larkin had five for Wave United.
Milwaukee next heads to El Paso to take on the Patriots Friday (6/20) and Sunday (6/22). The Rhinos play the first of three straight against Montreal when they host the Impact on Friday (6/20).
Wave United's next home will be Sunday, June 29, at 6:00 pm when it takes on the Indiana Blast at Uihlein Soccer Park. Call the Wave/Wave United Office at 414-224-WAVE (9283) for tickets or information, or check out www.milwaukeewaveunited.com.
