Robinson scores goal in IceHogs 4-1 win

Rockford, Ill.- Rockford IceHogs goalie Michel Robinson accomplished a feat done by few Wednesday night at the Rockford MetroCentre against the Fort Wayne Komets. Robinson became the first goaltender in IceHogs history to score a goal in the Hogs 4-1 win in front of 4,046 fans. The Hogs puck stopper also turned away 30 shots to pick up the win in a battle between the top two teams in the Western Division.

Rockford began the scoring at 9:39 of the first period when winger Vince Malts slid a power play goal under Komets goalie Tyler Masters. Fort Wayne, however, would get the equalizer in the second period with a power play goal of their own. Winger David Hukalo top shelved a man advantage marker at 3:25 to tie the score 1-1.

The game remained tied until the third period when the game was decided by special teams. The Komets, who finished the night 1-for-10 on the power play, where on a power play after defenseman Ryan Bonni was whistled for a cross checking penalty at 13:41. Center J.C. Ruid would however, capitalize for the IceHogs while short handed. Ruid maneuvered past a Komets back-checker in transition and beat Masters five-hole at 14:05 to give Rockford the lead back.

Then at the 18:37 mark of the final frame, Fort Wayne pulled Masters in favor of the extra attacker. With an empty net starring at him from across the ice, Robinson picked up a Fort Wayne dump in pass and shot it the length of the ice at 18:54 for an empty net goal, sending the crowd into a frenzy.

The IceHogs weren't finished there, as Ruid tacked on another empty netter at 19:48 to seal the contest. Rockford finished just 1-for-9 on the power play and had 21 shots on goal.
