Robertson Returns For Third Season
June 18, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
New Mexico Scorpions News Release
[RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-New Mexico Scorpions head coach Randy Murphy has inked Chris Robertson to a contract for the upcoming season. Robertson becomes the first forward signed by the Scorpions this offseason.
Robertson, 24, will be in his third year as a Scorpion and fifth as a professional. Last season the center played in 59 games setting a career high with 78 points (34G, 44A) and led his team with a +22 plus/minus rating.
"I am excited to be back in New Mexico for my third season," said Robertson. "I am looking forward to build on the success we had the past couple season as we have a good group of core players returning."
Originally starting his pro career in 2004-05 with the San Angelo Saints, Robertson has increased his point total every season. This season will be another challenge for him to set a career high mark offensively.
"He has gotten better and better every year; not only in offense but also as a leader," said Murphy. "Points aren't always a true indicator of success but with Chris his jump in offense is a tribute to how hard he has worked the past couple seasons."
Robertson also quickly left his mark on the organization's record books. In just two season wearing a Scorpions' jersey, he is 11th with 136 points and ninth in goals with 53. Some of his best work is done on faceoffs as he was honored in the CHL's annual "Best of the Best Poll" as the second best draw man in the league.
"Chris is beyond his years as a player and as an individual," said Murphy. "We expect another solid year from him and will be looked upon to be a leader for this team."
