The Central Hockey League (CHL) is pleased to have a member of its family inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame as former NHL linesman and current CHL Officiating Supervisor Ray Scapinello was named as a member of the Hall's class of 2008. The veteran official of 33 seasons joins Glenn Anderson, Igor Larionov and Ed Chynoweth in the current class.
"The CHL is very proud of Ray (Scapinello) and his accomplishment over the past 30 years," said Duane Lewis, CHL's Senior Vice President of Operations. "He has been a great addition to our group helping develop young officials for the past three years. His experience and insight have given our league one of the best collections of officials in all of hockey."
The man known around hockey as âScampy' officiated 2508 regular season NHL games (never missing a game), 426 Stanley Cup playoff games and an astounding 20 Stanley Cup final series. He also worked three all-star games and the 1998 Olympic Games in Nagano, Japan.
Scapinello received the phone call from Jim Gregory (the Chairman of the Hockey Hall of Fame's Selection Committee) early on Tuesday morning announcing his appointment.
"I am humbled by this honor," said Scapinello. "This is something you don't think about or strive for but it truly is the icing on the cake. I wish to thank the selection committee for this honor that without a doubt is the highlight of my career."
The 2008 Induction Celebration will be held on Monday, November 10th at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.
