Robertson Returns And Joy Arrives

August 28, 2007 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
New Mexico Scorpions News Release

[ RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-New Mexico Scorpions Head Coach Randy Murphy remained busy building his team for the upcoming season. On Tuesday, the Scorpions announced the signing of Chris Robertson and Justin Joy.

Robertson returns for his second season in a Scorpions jersey after the 23 year old had a breakout season, his fourth as a professional. His 65 points (20G, 45A) led the Scorpions during the 2006-07 campaign.

"Anytime you can bring your leading scorer back it is a great thing," said Murphy. "He is one of the best skaters in the league and will help us on draws, the penalty kill and will also provide great leadership in the locker room."

Last season Robertson was named an assistant captain. By wearing the "A" at only 22 years old, the Owen Sound, Ont. native became the youngest letter wearer in Scorpions franchise history.

Joy arrives in New Mexico after spending the last two seasons with Elmira College , the same program that has produced Murphy and forward Craig Macdonald. The rookie comes to the CHL after a collegiate career that gave him a reputation as a solid two-way player.

During the 2005-06 season, Joy led the Soaring Eagles in points (33) and assist (19). Last year the 5'8", 191-pound forward totaled 20 points, including 14 assists, second most on the team.

"Justin is a skilled player who was counted on heavily during his collegiate career," said Murphy. "We feel he is well suited for the professional level and are excited for his arrival in New Mexico."

The two signings give Murphy ten players on the Scorpions 2007-08 roster. Fans should expect to see a busy few weeks ahead as the organization will be filling out the roster for training camp which begins the second week of October.

Ticket packages are on sale for as low as $63. Every month, one lucky full season ticket holder will win a free, game-worn autographed Scorpions' jersey.
