Bucks Sign ECHL Defenseman Walker

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League have announced the signing of fourth-year defenseman David Walker for the upcoming 2007-08 season.
Walker, from Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, played his first three professional seasons on the west coast for the ECHL's Long Beach Ice Dogs. While out west Walker played in 181 games, netting eight goals, with 39 assists, for 47 points, while picking up 352 penalty minutes.
"David was their (Long Beach) captain for the last two-years, he's a great character guy, and very team oriented", said Bucks head coach/GM Terry Ruskowski.
Last season Walker suited up for 57 games, scoring one goal, with 14 assists for 15 points, while racking up 151 penalty minutes. Walker's best pro season came in his rookie year of 2004-05, where he played in 65 games, scoring six goals, with 15 assits, for 21 points, and 119 penalty minutes.
"I've been after David all summer long", said Ruskowski, "all of his coaches absolutely raved about him, I am very, very pleased to have him here."
Prior to playing in Long Beach, Walker played four-years of college hockey at Dalhousie University (CIS) in Canada where he scored 15 career goals, while handing out 36 assists, for 51 points in 106 games.
"I would love to see his work ethic rub off on the rest of our team, and make everyone else better", Ruskowski said.
Walker played in parts of three junior seasons-all for the Moncton Wildcats of the QMJHL ('96-'97, '98-'99, '99-'00). In the '98-'99 season Walker racked up 226 penalty minutes, in just 41 games played.
The Bucks, who open training camp October 8th, are preparing for their sixth CHL season. Laredo opens the season with a three-game road trip starting in New Mexico on October 19th, with the home opener on October 26th against division foe Corpus Christi. For tickets call 718-BUCK.
