Roberts Wins Multiple Pre-Season Awards

Kent, OH - February 6, 2013 - Last year's MAC Player of the Year and BlueSox' star George Roberts is quickly making headlines entering his senior season at Kent State with multiple pre-season awards.
Last month Roberts was named a First-Team Louisville Slugger Pre-Season All-American by the writers of Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, moving up from having been named to the Second-Team entering 2012.
More recently, College Sports Madness named Roberts Pre- Season Field Player of the Year, as well making him a member of the First-Team of the 2013 Madness Mid-American Baseball Pre-Season All-Conference Team.
Kent State received numerous other awards from College Sports Madness, including Pitcher of the Year, Freshman of the Year, and Coach of the Year. The Golden Flashes reached the College World Series for the first time last summer.
Baseball America has also named Roberts one of their Top 10 MAC Prospects heading into the 2013 MLB Draft.
Roberts hit .410 with a .453 OBP for Butler last summer in 30 games. He tied for second on the team in home runs and extra-base hits, despite having only played half the season. Roberts led the MAC with 66 RBIs in 2012, hitting .364/.392/.549 over 65 games for the Golden Flashes.
Baseball America projects Kent State will repeat as MAC champions this year. They have been ranked 19th by College Sports Madness, 31st by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, and 34th by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.
As a senior, Roberts is ineligible to return to Butler in 2013, but other Kent State players will be with the BlueSox this summer. They will be announced Monday.
