SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (July 31, 2015) - Today Arizona United SC announced that former captain Rob Valentino has retired from playing professionally and has taken a job as an assistant coach with Orlando City SC's USL franchise. The USL club will begin play in 2016.
The Pinnacle High School graduate signed with Arizona United SC on December 4, 2014. He appeared in 15 matches for United, starting and wearing the captain's armband for all of them.
"We couldn't be happier for Rob in taking this next step in realizing his dream of becoming a professional soccer coach," said Arizona United SC owner Kyle Eng. "We truly appreciate what Rob brought to Arizona United SC this season in terms of leadership - both in the locker room and on the pitch. Although his homecoming was short, we wish he, Amanda and his children nothing but the best in Orlando"
Prior to signing with Arizona, Valentino had worn the captain's armband for Orlando City SC during its years in the USL. A player on the club's inaugural roster, Valentino helped lead the Lions to regular season titles in 2011, 2012 and 2014 in addition to two postseason titles in 2011 and 2013. The Phoenix native was also named the USL Defensive Player of the Year in 2011.
