With 1,416 fans in attendance, Sunday afternoon was all about Topeka RoadRunners hockey. Fans watched an action packed game that saw it's first goal at 10:00 by RoadRunner captain Matt Hartmann, with Steve Shafer and Bryon Paulazzo assisting the goal. The RoadRunners would strike again at 13:29 with a goal from Andrew Blazek assisted by Jordan George. Wichita Falls would take advantage of a power play and score a short handed goal to see the game tied at two goals at the end of the first period.
Andy Inderieden put the RoadRunners back on top at 3:45 on a power play goal with a pass from Eric Artman and George. A fourth goal from Travis Stevens would extend the lead at 5:36 with help from Edgars Lipsbergs and Kevin Ryan.
Wichita Falls made one last goal at 12:30 in the third period. The RoadRunners would tally another point at 14:37 with Shafer scoring a shorthanded goal from Artman and Jeff Burke. A Blazek power play goal at 19:18 with an assist from Hartmann and Randy Swank put the game out of reach for the Wildcats and the RoadRunners would lead the series at 2-0 in the best of five series.
Topeka RoadRunners travel to Wichita Falls, TX for Friday and Saturday games, hoping to win one of the two games scheduled to advance onto the finals. If the series should go to five necessary games, the team will return home to Landon Arena on April 12th at 6:00 pm. Check back on www.topekaroadrunners.com for information after every game.
