Topeka Pilots News Release
The Springfield Junior Blues are having a good North American Hockey League season, but it might be even better if they didn't have to play the Topeka RoadRunners.
Sami Tavernier had a goal and three assists Friday night to lead the RoadRunners to a 6-3 win over the Junior Blues at Nelson Center, Topeka's eighth victory against Springfield this season.
Tyler Hayes' power play goal at 1:33 of the third period gave Topeka a 4-3 lead, and JB Baker and Marcus Russell added empty-net goals for the NAHL South Division RoadRunners (20-11-0).
Matt Long and Trevor Stone each had a goal and an assist for the Junior Blues (15-9-4), who have won just three of 11 games against Topeka this season with a pair of overtime losses. The teams play for the 12th time this season at 7:05 tonight at Nelson Center.
Springfield missed a chance to move into sole possession of third place in the Midwest Division. The Junior Blues remain tied at 34 points with the idle Janesville Jets (16-8-2).
