Roadrunners Take Home Opener 2-1 Over Aces

EDINBURG - The Edinburg Roadrunners won their 2003 home opener 2-1 over the Alexandria Aces on a fielder's choice play in the bottom of the 10th inning.

Starter Ryan Harris pitched eight scoreless innings for the Roadrunners (4-1), striking out seven and allowing only three hits and one walk.

The Aces (1-4) tied the game at 1 with an unearned run in the top of the ninth inning off Chris Russ (1-1).

In the bottom of the 10th, Alph Coleman earned a walk off John Thompson (0-1) and advanced to third on a single by Anthony Angel. The next batter, Derek Henderson, hit a ground ball to third base and Coleman slide under the tag on the throw to home plate for the win.

Shaun Shiery threw six innings for the Aces, allowing one earned run on four hits. The Roadrunners scored the first run in the bottom of the fifth inning on an Eric Gonzalez single, driving in Benjamin Cordova.

The Roadrunners and Aces continue their series with tonight's 7:05 game at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
