
Roadrunners Retire 16 Straight Pelicans to Beat Pensacola 6-3

The Edinburg Roadrunners used timely hitting and lights out pitching to sneak out a 10 inning 6-3 victory over the Pensacola Pelicans on Friday night at Pelican Park.
Edinburg retired the final 16 Pelican batters in a row and scored 5 unanswered runs on the Pelicans over the final five innings. The Edinburg scoring kicked off in the top of the third inning as Eric Gonzalez broke a 16 at-bat drought at the plate with a 380 foot bomb over the left-center field wall to tie the ball game up at one.
Pensacola took the lead again in the bottom half of the inning when Juan Rocha grounded into a fielder's choice play that scored Jose Salas. The RBI was Rocha's second RBI of the game after homering to straight-away center field in the first off of Edinburg starter Frank James.
After trailing 3-1 Edinburg would tie the ball game up at 3 in the sixth inning when the Roadrunners scored on back to back RBI doubles off the bats of Eddie Lara and Neesan Zieour.
The score remained tied at 3 untill extra innings when Edinburg scored three runs off of Pensacola reliever Robbie Hebert. Hebert (1-1) took the loss as he walked three and gave up a double to Edinburg right-fielder Matt Spencer down the left field line that scored Eddie Fitzpatrick from second base.
The pitching was dominant after the final out in the fifth inning. Edinburg did not allow a baserunner after a two out walk to Juan Rocha in the fifth inning. Roadrunner starter Frank James would get a no-decision in a strong effort allowing just six hits and 1 earned run through his seven innings of work. Julio Ruiz (3-1) took the win in relief for Edinburg pitching a hitless eighth and ninth innings with two strikeouts, and Steve Wilkerson nothed his league leading ninth save of the season.
Edinburg will send rookie stud Kevin Hull (2-1, 1.29 ERA) to the hill Saturday he will face off against Pensacola's Gerardo Casadiego (1-3, 6.32 ERA) with a 6:05 scheduled first pitch.
