RoadRunners Ready to Battle

As the Topeka Roadrunners prepare to take the ice tonight, the NAHL South Division deserves a spotlight. On the ice tonight it is the Topeka Roadrunners and the Springfield Jr. Blues. But to look at the standings, the RoadRunners and the St Louis Bandits are the ones truly doing battle starting off tonight with 55 points each and currently sharing the top spot in the NAHL South Division. The south division is where the action seems to be this year with the closest point leaders from the other divisions being the west at 44 points. The league leaders for team points also share the top five spots for scoring leaders in the league. Jordan George occupies the third spot with Steve Shafer holding tight to his number five spot in the league. Bryon Paulazzo shares his sixth place in the league with members from Alexandria and Wichita Falls. Bryce Merriam remains on top of goaltenders in the league. The defending NAHL Southern Division Champion RoadRunners and two time defending Robertson Cup Champions St Louis Bandits will again go head to head in St Louis next weekend

The Springfield Jr. Blues have been in Topeka since Wednesday night's New Years Eve game. Topeka has had a few moments where regrouping was necessary, however at the end of the third period, have been able to raise the sticks in victory. The RoadRunners look to sweep the series with the puck dropping at 7:05pm at Landon Arena. The RoadRunners will also be hosting "Scout Night" with members from local Boy Scouts in attendance along with scouts taking part in entertainment during the first intermission.

About the Topeka RoadRunners / North American Hockey League

The Topeka RoadRunners are the reigning Southern Division Champions in the North American Hockey League as well as the 2007 - 2008 NAHL Organization of the Year.

The RoadRunners are enjoying their second season in Topeka, KS under the ownership of Mary Magdalene Lorang. It currently has the third largest attendance, with the highest winning percentage, points and the lowest ticket price in the nineteen team league.

The North American Hockey League in its 33rd season is a Junior A league affiliated with USA Hockey and its primary goal is to enhance the development of its players through top-quality coaching, extensive practice time and a rigorous game schedule. The league is committed to providing these developmental opportunities in conjunction with a commitment to academic support. The league's schedule and playoff schedule is largely designed around weekend travel to minimize school conflicts. NAHL competition helps players make the transition from midget and high school hockey to college hockey by creating an environment that is highly competitive, encourages skill development and provides time for physical growth and maturity.
