Roadrunners Halted on the Road

HARLINGEN, Texas - The Edinburg Roadrunners were defeated by the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings by a score of 10-4 on Tuesday night at Harlingen Field.

Rio Grande Valley (29-28) stuck first, after back to back singles from Paul Montalbano and Michael Garcia. Thomas Shull then drew a walk to load the bases.

It set the stage for Troy Zawadzki who produced a two run single giving the WhiteWings an early 2-0 lead. Shull later scored on an RBI single from Roberto Ramirez making it 3-0 RGV.

Ramirez later scored on an RBI single making it 4-0 in the second inning.

The WhiteWings loaded the bases yet again off reliever Bryan Kloppe in the third inning. Kloppe walked Ramirez scoring Montalbano making it 5-0.

Edinburg (27-29) responded with a Dan Coury single, and then Tim Battle then drew a walk, which set the stage for Agustin Septimo who smashed a two run double scoring Coury and Battle trimming the deficit to 5-2.

The Roadrunners continued their offense when Michael Haynes hit a single that scored Septimo cutting the margin to 5-3.

In the bottom of the fifth the Wings extended their lead off an Error from Haynes scoring Shull and Zawadzki adding a pair of runs making it 7-3 Wings. Carpen later scored on another error from Edinburg's infield making it 8-3 RGV.

Edinburg scored in the eighth inning, with an RBI double from Battle scoring Trevor Whyte from second cutting the lead in half 8-4.

Rio Grande Valley added a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth extending their lead to 10-4 as the Wings would hold on from there and win game three of the four game series.

Leo Madrid (3-3) took the loss for the Roadrunners while tossing an inning and a third allowing four earned runs.

Trent Evins (6-4) earn the win for Rio Grande Valley going seven and a third innings scattering four earned runs in the process.

The Roadrunners will play the series finale against the Rio Grande Valley White Wings at Harlingen Field with the first pitch set for 7:05 pm.

The Roadrunners return home on Thursday, July 25th when they host the San Angelo Colts for a four game series and it will be Thirsty Thursday were all beer will be sold at a discounted price. Gates open at 6:05 pm and first pitch at 7:05 pm.
