Roadrunners End Skid with Win Over Thunder

EDINBURG, Texas - The Edinburg Roadrunners scored at least one run in each inning after the fourth en route to a 10-4 victory over the McAllen Thunder Tuesday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium snapping their eight-game losing streak.

Aaron Guerra (5-6) led the way for the Roadrunners after pitching six innings and allowing two runs on eight hits while striking out seven.

The Thunder (27-37) got the scoring started in the top of the fourth. Back-to-back singles by Brian Nichols and Luke Hetherington put runners at first and second. Zach Mandelblatt then hit an RBI double that allowed Nichols to score. Blake Sanders then followed with an RBI fielder's choice driving in Hetherington from third making it 2-0.

The Roadrunners (25-41) responded in the bottom half of the second against McAllen starter J.T. Zinc. D.J. Dixon hit a two-run double to deep right field that allowed Stantrel Smith and Osiel Flores to score tying things at two.

In the bottom of the fifth, R.J. Harris reached on a one-out walk and then moved to second on a stolen base and then to third on a throwing error. A fielding error then allowed Harris to from third. Another fielding error in the inning then allowed Robert Matlock to score giving Edinburg the 4-2 lead.

After adding a run in the bottom of the sixth that made it 5-2, the Thunder added a pair in the top of the seventh against reliever Mike Schurz. Adam Matos led off with a triple and then came into score on a fielding error. After a walk to Antoin Gray, Wilson Batista hit an RBI double that allowed Gray to score from first cutting the Roadrunners lead 5-4.

Edinburg responded in the bottom of the seventh. Flores reached on a one-out walk and then moved to third on a fielding error that put runners on the corners. Dotel then hit a two-run triple that allowed Flores and Dixon to score. Gabe Memmert followed with an RBI single to left field driving in Dotel and pushing the lead to 8-4.

In the bottom of the eighth, three straight hits led to two more runs. Matlock hit an RBI single that allowed Smith to score from third. Flores then followed with an RBI double to left center field that scored Matlock from first making it 10-4.

Julio Castro closed out the game with a scoreless ninth giving Edinburg the 10-4 victory and snapping their eight-game losing streak.

The Roadrunners have the day off on Wednesday while the Thunder open a five-game series against the first place San Angelo Colts starting tomorrow night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
