
Roadrunners Crowned 2012 Champions

EDINBURG, Texas - The Edinburg Roadrunners have been crowned the 2012 United League Champions after defeating the Fort Worth Cats 10-1 Sunday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
Osiel Flores led a Roadrunners offense that pounded out 18 hits on the night by going three-for-four with six RBI and two runs scored.
Joe Weik got the scoring started for the Roadrunners (3-0) with an RBI single in the bottom of the first that scored Vincent Blue making it 1-0.
A fielding error by the Cats (0-3) in the bottom of the second allowed Tim Battle to come around and score pushing the lead 2-0.
In the bottom of the third, Weik and Derek Perren led off with back-to-back singles. After a sacrifice bunt by Stantrel Smith, Felix Molina was intentionally walked to load the bases. Osiel Flores then hit a three-run double to left field that made the score 5-0.
Miguel Martinez (2-0) allowed his first run in the top of the seventh on a double to Derek Marshall that scored C.J. Beatty which made it 5-1 Roadrunners. The hits by Marshall and Beatty were the first hits allowed by Martinez since the first inning.
After Edinburg added a run in the bottom of the seventh, they added four more in the bottom of the eighth. Smith hit a two-run single that scored Weik and Perren from second and third. Later in the inning, Flores hit a two-run double that extended the Roadrunners lead 10-1.
Martinez pitched eight innings and allowed one run on five hits while striking out three and walking just one.
Paul Koss came on to pitch a scoreless ninth as he struck out Scott Dalrymple to end the game giving Edinburg the 10-1 victory.
Steve Barnes (0-1) took the loss for the Cats as he pitched three and a third innings while allowing five runs on nine hits.
The Roadrunners closed out the playoffs on a seven-game win streak which includes the final two games of the regular season.
