Topeka Pilots News Release
The Topeka RoadRunners finished off their longest preseason schedule in franchise history with an unblemished record of 6-0-0, and they did it in impressive fashion by whitewashing the Corpus Christi Ice Rays with back to back shutouts in Overland Park, KS.
After a 5-0 win on Saturday night, Sunday's 11:00 am faceoff was pushed back to 11:30 after the Ice Rays bus broke down on the way home Saturday night. The RoadRunners dominated the first period, outshooting their guests 13-2, and jumping out to a 2-0 lead on power play goals by Jacob Poe at 16:35 and Jordan Davis at 18:44. Poe's shot was a blast from the blue line while Davis' goal was a top corner snipe. Michael Hill assisted both goals.
In the second period, the Ice Rays got their legs under them a little better and managed 7 shots on goal but the only tally of the period put Topeka ahead 3-0 when Bob Marx rifled home a power play goal at 8:54 assisted by Cory Ramsey and Nate Milam . The 'Runners stifled Corpus Christi in the third, outshooting them 10-4 and adding a fourth power play goal, this one by Kevin Novakovich who has scored a goal in every game of the preseason. Michael Hill notched his third assist of the game and Justin Hussar got the secondary assist. Eric Rohrkemper turned aside all 13 shots for the shutout win.
Topeka begins the 2010-11 season on Wednesday evening in Blaine, MN when they face the Alexandria Blizzard at 8:00 pm CDT.
