
Roadrunners Back on the Air

The Edinburg Roadrunners are announcing today that they will be back on the airwaves for another full season as they have signed an agreement with their new flagship station KIRT 1580-AM "La Fabulosa" for the 2005 season.
The Roadrunners in 2004 hit the airwaves full time for the first time in their existence to the delight of all Roadrunner fans. Every pitch, every hit, and every exciting moment of the magical season that ended with a Central League Championship was heard both on the airwaves and on the internet via www.roadrunnersbaseball.com. The Roadrunners have been on the radio on previous seasons on a limited game basis.
KIRT, the new home for Roadrunners Baseball, is a Spanish language radio station with a Valley-Wide broadcast signal based out of McAllen. Owned by the Pedraza family, KIRT's format is geared towards Spanish Language favorites such as Nortena, Tex-Mex, and Ranchera music. KIRT has been broadcasting since 1957 and they have continued to be a favorite within the Valley community. KIRT does have a history of broadcasting sports including area high school football.
For the second year in a row the play-by-play will be handled by the Roadrunner's Director of Media Relations and Broadcasting Alex Del Barrio. Del Barrio, a 21 year old Mission High School graduate is in his third year in professional baseball and second with the Roadrunners. He attended Boston University's College of Communication and anticipated completion of his degree in Broadcast Journalism in the Spring of 2006. His broadcasting credits also include, guest host of the 1240 SportsLine, fill in announcer on UTPA Women's basketball, as well as play by play for Boston University Men's soccer and Ice Hockey. He worked for KIRT as a football play-by-play announcer in 2002 at the age of 19 covering Mission High School football and PSJA North football.
Rioplex Wireless will be the host of the Roadrunner Webcasts for 2005. For all out of area listeners, the live radio broadcasts will be available in streaming audio via the Roadrunners website. The broadcasts will be conducted in English and will begin 10 minutes prior to the first pitch with a brief pre-game show which will include an interview with a player or with Roadrunner manager Vince Moore.
The Edinburg Roadrunners are a member of the Central Baseball League, an independent league located throughout four southern states. The league is preparing for its 12th season and its fourth under its current name. Teams are located in Edinburg (TX), San Angelo (TX), Robstown (TX), Ft. Worth (TX), El Paso (TX), Shreveport, (LA), Jackson (MS), and Pensacola (FL). The CBL will play a 94 game schedule between May and August 2005.
