RoadRunners and Cumulus Putting Hockey Back on the Air

August 9, 2013 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Topeka Pilots News Release

Sports fans in Topeka have another reason to cheer today as the Topeka RoadRunners and Cumulus Media have announced a new partnership that will put RoadRunner Hockey back on the radio. In recent years the RoadRunners were only available via internet streaming. This season every RoadRunner game can be heard live on Sports Radio 1490 KTOP-AM.

"It has been our mission to make this team more accessible to our amazing fans," said RoadRunners Executive Director of Business Operations Joe Clark. "With Cumulus Media and 1490, RoadRunner Nation will be just a push of a button away from the best hockey in the NAHL."

In addition to RoadRunners games, pre and post game shows, fans will also be able to tune in to The RoadRunners Coach's Show, which is broadcast live on Wednesday nights during the season. The Coach's Show is hosted by Arch Ecker, the voice of the Topeka RoadRunners and the longest tenured play-by-play man in the NAHL.

"I'm thrilled to be returning to traditional radio," said Arch Ecker. "Partnering with Cumulus allows us to expand our reach and help grow our sport. I'm looking forward to hitting the airwaves again in just a few short weeks!"

Sports Radio 1490 KTOP-AM is Topeka's CBS Sports affiliate and is part of Cumulus' six-station family broadcasting in the Topeka area, which also includes Majic 107.7, V100, 99.3 The Eagle, The Big Talker 1440, and KTOP Country 102.9. In addition to broadcasting games on 1490, Cumulus will promote the team on each of its other channels including providing on-site promotions at Landon Arena. Fans looking to hear the games on their mobile devices can do so by downloading the "I Heart Radio" app on iTunes.

"We are excited to welcome the RoadRunners back to the radio dial," said Cumulus Media 6 Vice President and GM Ron Covert. "Teaming up with the RoadRunners is a great thing for the Topeka community, the chance to bring their die-hard fan base to our stations and to broadcast the best hockey in the NAHL to the rest of the city."

The RoadRunners hit the ice with an exhibition series at home against the Aberdeen Wings on Sept. 6th and 7th. The regular season begins on Sept. 13th at Landon Arena against the Corpus Christi Ice Rays. With the 5k Fan Giveaway, a lucky fan will win $5,000 every time 5,000 or more fans attend a RoadRunners game.
