Phoenix RoadRunners News Release

PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Phoenix RoadRunners of the ECHL, a proud affiliate of the San Jose Sharks and the Worcester Sharks, announced today that veteran center Kimbi Daniels has agreed to terms on a contract for the upcoming 2008-09 season.

Daniels, 35, joins the RoadRunners following eight seasons with the Alaska Aces of the ECHL and the Anchorage Aces of the former West Coast Hockey League. Entering his 18th professional season, the Long Plain, Manitoba native averaged nearly a point per game during his tenure in Alaska recording 172 goals, 301 assists, and 473 points in 486 career regular season games. Daniels also added 16 goals and 56 points in 64 post-season games, and was Alaska's second leading playoff scorer when the team captured the 2006 Kelly Cup. In the 13-year professional history of the Aces, he ranks in the top-five in goals, assists, points, penalty minutes, and games played.

"We're absolutely thrilled to be able to add a player with the talent and championship experience that Kimbi Daniels possesses," said RoadRunners Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Brad Church. "He will bring an immediate impact to our hockey club and serve as a positive influence for our younger guys."

Daniels tallied 25 goals and 66 points in 2007-08 to finish second on the Aces in scoring, and amassed 134 penalty minutes in 71 games. He then paced Alaska during the 2008 Kelly Cup Playoffs with two goals and nine points in nine games while leading the Aces to the National Conference Semifinals.

"I'm excited for the opportunity to come to Phoenix and play with a younger team," said Daniels. "It's been a while since I played with a younger group, but I think as long as we get everyone going in the same direction we have a chance to start building a great tradition."

Selected by the Philadelphia Flyers with the 44th overall pick at the 1990 NHL Draft, Daniels appeared in 27 games with the Flyers during the 1990-91 and 1991-92 seasons and collected one goal and two assists for his NHL resume. He has skated with 17 different teams in North America in six different leagues over the course of his professional career, and was a part of the last ECHL team to win the Riley Cup leading the Charlotte Checkers to a championship in 1996 before it was retired and replaced by the Patrick J. Kelly Cup.

Daniels has totaled 278 goals, 502 assists, 780 points, and 1,455 penalty minutes in 841 career games.

Daniels joins a RoadRunners roster that already includes forwards Mitch Carefoot, Wes Clark, Andrew Desjardins, Bryan Esner, Gino Guyer, James McEwan, Daniel Sisca, Peder Skinner and Chris Stevens; defenseman Matt Burke, T.J. Campbell, Rob Dmytruk, Bryan Nathe, and Tom Sawatske; and goaltender Paulo Colaiacovo.

Phoenix will play a two-game pre-season series against the Florida Everblades Oct. 10-11 at Germain Arena in Estero, Fla.

The RoadRunners open their fourth ECHL season Oct. 17 when they welcome the Victoria Salmon Kings to US Airways Center for a three-game Opening Weekend series. Season tickets, half-season packages, and flex plans for the 2008-09 season of Phoenix RoadRunners Hockey are currently on sale by calling (602) 462-GOAL or by logging on to www.phxroadrunners.com.
